The principle of operation is that two high quality stainless steel wires are acting as the electrodes of an electronic resistance meter. Each of them consists of two high quality stainless steel wires fitted in a C-shape frame. Of this wires which are partly submerged in the water the conductivity is measured continuously. The wave elevation is determined from this change, which are proportional to the immersion depth.

One wave probe can be fitted to a special attachment at the front of the carriage (the side towards the wave generator) in front of the model while the other one can be attached to the test frame of the carriage. The wave elevation is determined from this changes, which are proportional to the immersion depth.
